Updated 7th April 2020
We know that at this time providing food for your family may be hard. We are here to help. The Government has said that all children who get Free School Meals will now get a £15 per week supermarket voucher (called an eGift card).
To help you even more, Nightingale School will also be trying to provide regular boxes of ingredients for those families that said they would like one when they completed our survey a few weeks ago. We will send information to you about the boxes separately.
Who can get a Free School Meals e-Gift Card?
Every child who normally has Free School Meals at school will get an e-Gift card.
To receive this, you will have applied for Free School Meals as a benefit.
How do I claim my Free School Meals e-Gift Card?
You will soon receive an e-mail from a company called 'Edenred' saying that Nightingale school has sent you a 16 digit 'e-code'. This is a long number that you will find in the e-mail. It might take up to a week to arrive, please be patient. When you have the number, visit www.freeschoolmeals.co.uk and enter the number in the box. It will look like the picture below. You can then choose which supermarket you would like a voucher for. These include Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons and Asda. You will then be sent another e-mail with the e-gift voucher that you can use to pay for your shopping.
How much money will I get?
Each child that you have at Nightingale will get £15 every week. We will send out the vouchers every two weeks, so you will get £30 every time for each child that must last for two weeks.
How do I use my Free School Meals e-gift card?
When you go shopping at your chosen supermarket, take your phone with you. When you get to the checkout, show your e-gift card on your phone. The supermarket will scan the barcode on your egift card. You do not need to spend all the money at once.
You cannot use the voucher to buy age-restricted products such as cigarettes and alcohol.
Can I still sign up to claim Free School Meals now the school is closed?
Yes, you can still apply. To qualify, your child must be in school and you must be receiving one of the following benefits:
To apply, you need to visit Hackney's website. Click Here.
