Autumn Term 2016
Teacher(s) : Miss Mulla
Teaching Assistant: Val
In our Literacy sessions this term, we will be reading various texts such as; Bug Alert, Fang and Pest in a Tent.
We will begin to explore different sentence structures and the use of grammar such as the use of capital letters, full stops and connectives. We will begin to build our bank of adjectives we use to make our writing come alive. A key focus will be to build on hand writing using the correct formation i.e. making some letters tall, and others hang below the line.
We will be continuing to build on our phonic knowledge this term. We do this using a range of interactive games as well as incorporating these skills into our reading and writing sessions. In preparation for the Year 1 Phonics Screening in June, we will be practicing how to read and write words from the Year 1 curriculum.
The children take part in guided reading sessions five times a week, where they read a book appropriate for their level. Children will be put into groups depending on their reading level and will carry out daily activities that link to the text they are working on.
In maths, we will begin to explore number sense and number bonds to numbers within 20. Children will develop a clear understanding of numbers to 20 using concrete and pictorial resources. Children will continue to explore addition and subtraction strategies using a range of resources. Children will also develop an understanding of shape and space.
