Design and Technology

Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils at Nightingale are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an iterative process of designing and making. They work in a range of relevant contexts (for example, the use of tools during outdoor learning sessions) and make full use of our specialist practical spaces on site including our cooking room, gardening area and art + design studio.

One of the specialisms of our Design and Technology curriculum at Nightingale is our cooking curriculum.  We have developed this in partnership with the Hackney School of Food and every child who comes through our school will develop key skills enabling a life-long love of cooking and a knowledge of seasonality and healthy cuisine.  Wherever possible we have linked the recipes to our History and Geography curriculum, whether it's Viking Stew or Paella from Spain we find this engages our pupils really well.
